This is nearly two months overdue, but I spent a few days running around SXSW recently taking photos and covering 30+ bands for Hear Nebraska back in March. This was my second year at SXSW, and I loved every minute of it. Some highlights: discovering amazing new bands like The Donkeys and Shakey Graeves, having the opportunity to see some of my favorites live, like Typhoon, SOHN, and Vancouver Sleep Clinic, eating tacos for (almost) every single meal, discovering Aussie iced coffee, catching Lincoln band AZP’s amazing performance on our last night in Austin, and finally taking a pedicab.
Hear Nebraska covered the shit out of SXSW, and Nebraska bands like Digital Leather, AZP, Twinsmith, Orion Walsh, and others had a presence that made people stop and pay attention to us (and in the case of one AZP show, made a packed club chant “A-Z-P” and cheer multiple times for Lincoln, Nebraska).
It was a fun weekend, but I was really ready for a nap at the end of it all. A taste of what I saw is in the photos below. You can also see coverage from Hear Nebraska, including reviews of live shows, here, here, and here.
